Overview
I´ve been involved in 100+ Audiobook productions in different roles. From managing, casting and schedulling the production, to recording, editing, proofing and mastering.
The best scenario is when the narrator records in an adequate environment. That means no sound reflections and no external noises. Usually they record in a pro a booth or homestudio. If the recording has good quality, then the job is helping to optimize the sound. I see this activity as sculpting sound. Working on the rough edges, (plosives, sibilants, mouthclicks, eq), and obtaining a powerful clean sound.
If the recording is not good, (echo/reverb, external noise, poor mic sound), then, I don´t panic! I´m also eager to work on projects that require creativity to obtain a listenable and enjoyable final sound. That´s what tech is for...
